Want to make a living doing what you love? Don't be intimidated by the business side of it. Learn the skills needed to be successfully self-employed as a sole proprietor in a service-oriented business. Some of the topics covered include the pros and cons of self-employment, limiting liability, creating effective client contracts, setting and collecting fees, keeping financial records, avoiding problems with the IRS, marketing on a limited budget, and networking.
The optional book, "Small Time Business Operator: How to Start Your Own Business, Keep Your Books, Pay Your Taxes, and Stay Out of Trouble," ISBN 9780917510281, is available at the WCC Bookstore. This class qualifies for 4.00 Continuing Education Units approved by DONA International, an association for doulas.
